More Than Depositions

In this day and time you'd think trial attorneys were taking full advantage of the power of video to build, present and win cases. But a majority don't. Why? Probably because you don't understand how valuable video is to your profession. Probably because you don't know how to make a video. Probably because you think you can't afford it. But the real question is, can you afford NOT to have it?

Video is a powerful medium. It is intimate. People relate to it. With video you can literally bring the scene of the crime or the damages claimed into the courtroom. It has been proven that video saves time and money.

The most common use of video in the legal profession is the use of videotaped evidence. Videotaped evidence includes but is not limited to: depositions, scenes of incidents, proof of damages, proof of insurance fraud, surveillance videos, inconsistencies in testimonies, video wills, mock trials and preconstruction surveys. Ease of use and low cost of video plus the addition of audio and the availability of immediate projection make video the medium of choice in the modern courtroom.

Rule 30 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and the Federal Rules of Evidence control how video is used in the court system. All states have adopted either all or most of the three or four versions of Rule 30.

Legal video goes far beyond depositions. Trial attorneys are also using video during their opening statements and their closing arguments. All the different types of legal video are effective tools that play major roles in convincing juries to make a favorable verdict. Nothing is more effective than letting a jury hear the evidence and SEE it first hand in graphic detail.

The uses of video in the legal profession are unlimited. Savvy attorneys know that a properly trained and certified legal Videographer is a powerful ally when it comes to building, presenting and winning cases.

Video eliminates the confines of time and space. By videotaping evidence the entire jury can view it at the same time removing the necessity of passing pictures throughout the jury distracting them from the testimony that is going on at the same time and it also eliminates the necessity of expensive "blow ups" of documents, pictures, charts, etc.
